About Chef Yong
After his first contact with Japanese food in 1989, Master Chef Yong fell in love with the Japanese culture and cuisine. He was so intrigued that he quitted his job and left his family for Japan, determined to master the cutlery art of Japanese cuisine. He arrived in Japan with only a few hundred dollars in his pocket and found a low-paying job as a trainee cook in a Japanese club.Life as a trainee cook was very tough but he perseveres for 2 years before he met the owner of an established restaurant in Tokyo. The owner saw the passion Master Chef Yong have for Japanese cuisine and offered him a better position at his own restaurant. Master Chef Yong then has the opportunity to learn under a very well-known Japanese chef for another 3 years before his boss put him in-charge of a new restaurant.
However in 1992, Master Chef Yong has to return home when his father fell sick. Thereafter, he continues to work in Singapore with some of the prestigious restaurant. Master Chef Yong has worked alongside some experienced chef which includes an ex-chef for the Japan Embassy in Singapore. Master Chef Yong has served several celebrities and well-known figures like President Nathan and MM Lee. After more than 20 years of experience as a Japanese chef, Master Chef Yong started his own private chef services in 2009.
